MVP Evaluation

Greetings all,

I have done a preliminary look at the MVP and have a few concerns.I would appreciate anyone's help in fixing the issues.

1) How do you stop the MVP from trying to tune specific channels? (eg. HD or channels not appropriate for children (I find the parental controls too limited))
2) Is there a decent replacement remote which will work with the MVP and be able to control the TV functions? (power at a minimum)
2a) Do you know where to buy a remote preconfigured to work with Sage?
3) What features could be disabled from within the default STV to make the unit respond more quickly?
4) When I change channels or watch content that is too dark, the SVid port goes to sleep. This causes my TV to start looking for input delaying or interuppting the show. (Sony Trinitron 27" tube) Is there something which can be done to resolve this?

Let me ask this another way.

Does the hierachy or preference go:

SageClient.properties then Sage.properties?

Meaning if the same setting is in both the client file take priority?

If that were the case, I could modify this line:

epg_data_sources/2687/unavailable_stations=46847,34427,47155,45736,46205,32744,

to exclude my HD stations. The above are stations I have already excluded based on reception issues..

Thoughts?

I could be wrong, since I've never tried this, but I believe those enabled/disabled channels always apply to the server, since that is where all scheduling, recording, EPG downloading, etc., is done. The clients would just get this info from the server. If that is correct, I'm not sure what to suggest regarding diasabling any particular channels on the MVP. I guess you could try editing the properties file for your MVP in the clients subdirectory (uses the MVP's MAC address) to try what you said above, but I would be surprised if that works.

The MVP's remote is simply the same Hauppauge remote that comes with the PVR tuner cards. All existing info for replacing it applies, except that you don't edit any irremote.ini file anywhere; SageTV just responds directly to the IR receiver on the MVP... which can only decode the RC5 IR protocol. (i.e: it isn't a universal IR receiver.)
