If you using sage client does it matter what hardware is where?
I am goin to build a 2nd PC for a client/bedroom - does the client work as if I were sitting in front of the server, EXACTLY? Will it matter if I install all the tv cards on the primary as long as my video card on the client is good and the network is over ethernet vs wireless?
I did search but ....I didnt find much as to if it matters what hardware is on what machine in a client situation. THX |

I'm a newbie. I've found that SageTV does not seem to distinguish between viewing at the server from at a client. That is, the time position within a recorded show seems to track whomever last viewed - server or client. This seems incorrect - as there would seemingly be two different people viewing recordings and at different times.
I'm new, so maybe I don't get some basic concept. |

OK - not 100% sure if I follow - but it seems like a good thing that you can take over where you left off on one or the other. Does the menu-ing all look the same - so if I were in my bedroom would I feel as though I were at my server/desktop where all my hardware is installed?

Like sfisher said: Yes; there is very little difference between the server's UI and the client's UI. (The few differences mostly relate to configuration/setup.)
Regarding your other question of where to put the hardware: you really want all the tuners on the server, if you can do so. The client can't record anything directly, so you would have to have a 2nd full install of SageTV for network encoders, plus all playback is streamed through the server anyway. - Andy

Opus 4 - ya good call now it makes sense your saying I would need another copy/install if I had cards here and cards there.....
I guess as long as the guality over 10/100 is good to go, there should be no reason to NOT do in that fashion - hardware on one - good video card/output to the lcd and call it a day! Thanks - so far I love the sage friends here - just a few posts and Im getting everything sorted out! |
