Network Encoder Problems

This morning after I revised my network via the windows network wizard I lost the connection between the SageTV server and
the network encoder. There were no errors, just that nothing happened when I tried to go to "LiveTV". BTW the other
network connections (folders, ect.) are working fine. After hours of trying to fix the problem, I finally was able to re-establish
the connection after a complete uninstall and reinstall of both SageTV and SageRecorder as well as another network wizard setup for both computers. This all leads to a few questions:

1. Would this problem be expected considering changes to the network (Note that no drives were changed, only the method of connection to the internet)? If so, was there some simpler solution that I have missed?

2. Software is very good but I have have many problem with the network encoder. So many, in fact, that if network encoding were my only solution, I probablly would not be considering Sage no matter how good it is in other areas. I will, however, if I decide to buy SageTV, buy another blaster and move my current PVR250 and a second PVR250 to the computer where SageTV actually resides(I have not done this for the trial because I did not wany to buy a second USB UIRT until I was sure about the software). Has everyone found that sageTV (using local encoders only) to be stable?. I has anyone else been having the problems that I have been having setting up a network encoder or is it just me?

I do not mean to be harsh but I do mean to be direct. I bought SageRecorder a few months ago and I have been pleased with it but I have always wanted have a fully integrated whole house PVR system and to replace my UTV. SageTV and SageClient really do appear to be able to do this and then some but I (and more importantly my Wife)need to to know that it is going to be there 24/7. I cannot need to reload SageTV once a month let alone
once or twice a week. Right now I cringe every time I push "LiveTV". This just cannot be the case it I am to toss UTV. Thanks in advance for you input.

Lain,

I have 3 PVR 250s installed on my main SageTV Setup and it very stable.
I do all my viewing using SageTVClient on second box and have had very few connection problems.

My Digital Cable now has Free Starz and Encore so I put a 4th PVR 250
in my SageTVClient PC and have had no disconnect problems yet...hopefully
this will continue for the rest of my SageRecorder Trial so I can decide If I
want to by SageRecorder or just go back to WinTVCap for recording Digital
Cable programs.

I have been Running SageTV on my server PC for 3 to 4 Months now and it
is a very stable product when used that way and several Weeks ago
purchased SageTVClient and i have been very happy with it. Actually to
the point where I use it for watching TV like a Tivo and it is almost as easy to
use as one with my ATI Remote Wonder...I do need to put some labels on it
so people know what keys do what.

John

John,

Thanks for the input. I once again had problems with the network encoder so I moved the Sage server to the machine where I physically have a PVR250 and am also using (2) client applications. This seems to be much more stable. I hope you have better luck with your network encoder solution than I did.
