Stuttering 6800 GT and VMR9

Well I finally fixed my stuttering problem that I have had for a long time by only using Overlay instead of VMR9. I thought this limitation was only with the Nvidia drivers, but it looks like it is VMR9 altogether.

Over the weekend I connected a Channel Plus modulator to the S-Video port of my 6800, and set up cloning (I am using the DVI port to connect to my 57" Toshiba HDTV). Anyhew, what I noticed is that when using Overlay the video on the SDTV is black (actually more like dark purpled). I can see all of the Sage screens, but no video, just audio. After pulling my hair out for a while, and trying different resolution settings and decoders, I finally realized that if I switched to VMR9 I could get video on both displays, but of course my stuttering problem came back.

I tried a bunch of different decoders with VMR9 and Overlay and always got the same - stuttering with VMR9 and no video on the SDTV with Overlay. The decoders I used were Intervideo, Nvidia Pure Video, Sonic, SageTV, Elecard, and Cyberlink.

Anyone have any ideas on how to either get VMR9 working properly? OR
Get Overlay to display on the secondary display?

My specs are:

AMD 1700+ w/768MB RAM
Nvidia Driver 77.76
Nvidia PV decoder 1.02-150

VMR9 is tricky, I had to set the my Nvidia decoders (throuhgt windows media player) to use VM9 instead of overlay and then went into Sage and set it again (also turned on FSE mode) and now, I have a smooth 1080i picture)

I'm using BFG 6600GTOC 128meg card with a AMD 3500+. running purevideo 185 drivers and 81.98 video drivers. & I also of my cleint working perfect, P4 1.8ghz with a FX5700 run VMR9 with same software setup too. both are viewing HDTV tv signals with out a hitch

Edit: just for a laugh, I just used my test rig, (P4 1.6ghz 256 ram and MX4000 POS) has no problem viewing VMR9 sdtv, if fails at HDTV singals but that might because of the low wireless connection speeds.

Can you explain what you did? I have been able to play the videos through Media player with no problems, but I wasn't sure if it was using VMR9 or Overlay - not sure where to set that.

when you have nvidia decoders install (and is the default decoder) go here to grab ther free software from MS to check http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Once your playing a video in the media player, a green nvidia icon will appear in your taskbar. right click on it and goto decoder properties. there you'll see options for overlay and VMR9. select what vmr9. and then exit and run sage and make sure its the same setting. and turn on FSE.
