do older plugins work with sagetv 4.0 ?
Many plugins seem to be written for a specific version of sagetv. Can I presume all plugins are upwards compatible?

Some work and some don't. Plugins are kind of like an automated search and replace, so if the code they modify hasn't changed then they will still work. SageTV now makes backups of the STV file when importing a plugin, so it is probably safe to test if the plugin you want still works.
