Multi-User Idea
First off, I want to say thanks. My whole PVR/HTPC started four months ago and it has now changed the way my entire household watches TV. The family no longer spends every night in front of the TV and using it as "family time." The family now spends time playing together knowing that if there is something we really want to watch or see, it is being handled and we can see it when we get around to it.
Now, in case this helps, my setup is a "server PC" (nothing special ... an Athlon XP 2100+, 512 MB ram, 720MB in storage (100GB in music, 250GB in movies, the rest for TV recording) and 3 MVPs. The PC is my office PC I use for e-mail, internet surfing, etc. as well. I only watch TV over the MVPs.
Now, as my family makes this transition to a "PVR Family" an issue only a PVR family would have has popped up. I thought I would throw the idea out here in case somebody sees value in it as I have no skills to create a plug-in via studio to do this.
The Issue: Family disagreements about what is more important to record. I realize this can be addressed by adding tuners and storage space, but...
The Idea: I would like the STV to have added functionality so that I can assign a family member's name (possibly more than one) as "interested parties" to watch the recording. I would then like to set a space limit by family member name so as to have the wife's shows deleted instead of mine if in need of space and the reason for it is she is recording more than her fair share (or yes, it might go the other way and probably does more frequently). As I think about it further, maybe we both want to watch a show, but we can't watch it together. It would be nice to have that distinction so that when it is watched by only one of us, Sage knows that and puts it in the right priority queue for deleting ro the right "storage space limit." You could probably takes this to an insane extreme, but FWIW.
