Plaback in other formats...ERROR(-19)

Is there a way to play other video formats(one's not recorded by sage), with the Media Extender? When I import avi/wmv, etc... non sage recorded movies, they wont play(they do play in sage and client on same computer)

I get this when I try to play:

THERE WAS AN ERROR PLAYING THE SELECTED FILE;

E:\WHATEVER.MPG

ERROR:ERROR-19) THERE WAS NO MEDIA PLAYER THAT CAN PLAY BACK THE SELECTED FILE.

Step by step explanation would be nice I'm new.

thanks

Unhappy SO...............

I guess I'll assume that sage tv media extender wont play any videos files other than what it records? 44 views and no responses!!

I just get:

THERE WAS AN ERROR PLAYING THE SELECTED FILE;

E:\WHATEVER.MPG

ERROR:ERROR(-19) THERE WAS NO MEDIA PLAYER THAT CAN PLAY BACK THE SELECTED FILE.

Search the forum. There is experimental transcoder in the latest beta. There is a property to enable it in sage.properties. Make sure you have a decent processor in your server-it takes some horsepower. I believe it supports the transcoding of Divx files. Maybe more.

thank you for replying

I have the latest beta installed. 4.1.6--sage and client.

You said, "There is a property to enable it in sage.properties". Where is sage.properties? And how would I enable it?

Anyone who knows a link that explains it? Im looking through everything on the suggested search now.

Again thank you very much for the help.

tom

My processor? Pentium 4 3.06 w hyper threading and 2 gigs of ram. Will that be enough?

Does this work for audio files too, or just video?

Thanks,
mike

That's too bad. A real extender can play all the same content the primary client does. I guess we'll keep on waiting. Maybe the new HD extender will play multiple audio formats as well.

Thanks,
mike

I might of misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking about the transcoding. The MVP supports the palyback of audio MP3 files. Keep in mind the MVP is a hardware device. That is why the native file format is limited. The trancoding capabilites may expand for the MVP. Also other extenders may support more formats natively.

The transcoding engine that Sage uses is FFMpeg. Looking at its documentation shows that it can transcode a large number of different audio codecs. http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC20 Now, weather or not Sage can transcode audio like FLAC or .wma, I dunno. I don't use anything besides MPE, so you'd have to test yourself.

Hopefully as Sage works out the functionality of using the transcoder, more filetypes, audio and video, will be supported. And hopefully more official info will be released as time goes on. But as now, the only official info seems to be how to turn on transcoding in sage.properties.
