Installed MVP under 4.1.6 - no connection and lost client

I just received my new MVP from Sage. I installed it according to the Sage manual and various forum posts. It will not boot up. The initial Haupage MVP screen comes on with a "progress bar" at the bottom which has 5 light blue rectangles. Two of the rectangles turn dark blue, indicating progress, then all stops. Just sits there.

I did register the Sage Media Extender license.

I set my router to 192.168.1.1 with static IPs, including the MVP, which is 192.168.1.108

My subnet is 255.255.255.0

I have a Linksys WRT54GC router. My mother board is a Gigabit with Realtek NIC Chip... I checked its properties and the checksum is set to off.

Up until I began messing with trying to get the MVP going I also had a client running on another computer. Now when I try to run the client it gives me the "Unable to connect to the SageTV Server.\r\n You may NOT re-use the same SageTV Client License on more than one machine!\r\n..."

I have the client license on the client machine. I also have the client software loaded on the server machiine, but I always have had it that way and all worked well.

I am lost. Lets get the MVP going first.

Sage 4.1.6 with new Sage MVP.
Help.

What is your OS? Do you have any firewall or AV programs? Have you tried disabling them? Also the MVP needs an extender licence to work. Did you get an extender licence? This licence is different from a client licence.

Just a side note: I have continued to not be able to connect from my client computer to Sage server... I kept getting the error about "too many users not enough client licenses".

Until... I set the client.properties to auto connect to the server by name. NOW I get to the screen "The connection to SageTV Server has been lost. Attempting to restore the connection..."

and there I sit.

OKAY! I turned off the Windows firewall and it works!... but, I want the windows firewall on... what settings are needed? I already have the firewall set to allow Sage.exe; Sage Client.exe; and ports 31099.

What am I missing?

Oh, the client still won't work... but we'll tackle that later...

You can't run the client on the server AND another PC with the same license number. You COULD run Sage in service mode on the server and run the Sage UI on the server. But you can't install Sage client on the server AND another PC and run it with ONE license number. You need to uninstall the client and run REGISTER to clear it from the server. Look in the manual. I believe there are 3 ports that need to be opened. And also ports for the MVP too.

Should have the info you need on the firewall. As well as a link to another post with the ports you need to open.

Set ports 16867, 16869, 31100, 31097, 31098, and 31099... no go.

I guess I'll play with it more tomorrow...

MrA

Got it.... MVP is working very well. thanks again. It is amazing how eazy it is to be ignorant and/or stupid about these things no matter how many times you have done them in the past.

By the way, image is not dark and responsiveness of the UI is very fast

So what was the solution?

The problem ws the Windows Firewall. I used the ports listed in the post noted by MrA above. I also had to open most of teh same ports in my router.

Oddly enough, opening the ports in teh Windows Firewall allowed the client machine to connect... how that cured the problem I had encountered of two clients on the same registration key I have no idea.

But I'm happy. And the quality and the responsiveness ofhte MVP are really impressive.
