Volume control problem

New HTPC:
SageTV 4.x
Win XP Home, P4 1.8
Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 (based on the Envy24 HT chipset)
Radeon 9600XT, with nVidia PureVideo decoder
Silverstone LC16M with iMon remote

I have the remote mapped to adjust system volume OK, and the dial on the case adjusts it as well, but the volume level doesn't actually change while watching TV or a DVD. If I open up the Volume Control panel in XP, it will show the master Volume Control level sliding up and down, but with no effect. Prodigy 7.1 is listed at the bottom as the default. The Wave slider seems to be controlling the volume coming from the sound card, but I can't control that with the remote.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Hi, chughes
Does this thread describe your problem and setup? Basically, if your HTPC is connected to the receiver via optical S/PDIF, volume is adjusted via the receiver; not the computer.
Edit: it looks like the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1LT is the one with optical.

Well, not really. I'm not hooked up to a receiver yet. I'm still tweaking the whole system in my office before I unleash it on the living room. And since my old receiver isn't DD, I will simply be putting the sound back out of the card into the television's speakers.

I will however keep that thread bookmarked for when I do get a proper receiver.

No volume control with Hauppauge PVR350

I also can't control the sound volume through Sage. The system master volume goes up and down with keyboard and Firefly remote commands and the mute indicator shows with the keyboard command, but neither has any effect on playback volume.

It would be really nice to have this feature.

My system:
P4 2.6 GHz
300GB hard drive
Sage 5
Firefly remote
PVR350, S-video in and out, audio in and out.

I had a similar problem and this worked to fix it:

Thanks for the reply. And of course because I just got a receiver, I probably won't need it. However, the receiver isn't hooked up yet, so I'll give it a spin and see how it works. In theory, having the Wave control follow (track) the Master would do the trick. Neat.
