Watching imported videos

I recently downloaded the trial version of sageTV and have it set up on an old pentium 4 box with a PVR-350. I am liking it a lot so far, and live tv and recording/playing back is working just fine (after a few headaches with installation).

My question is about watching imported videos. If I have, for example an .avi encoded with DivX, will SageTV be able to play this? I have tried but it gives me a "... problem rendering the video portion ..." error. I have the DivX codec installed okay, and windows media will play the files no problem. Sorry if the is a dumb question but I read through the FAQ and the first few pages of the forums without resoslution.

Are you using the 350's TV-out for watching videos? If so, you won't be able to playing anything but the formats that its hardware decoder supports -- such as the mpeg2 recordings.
