Very weird
I hesitate to throw this out here feeling sure you guys will send me off to the loony bin. But here goes.
One of my favorite shows is Law and Order. I watch most of the re-runs on TNT, in my area channel 37. Every Law and Order show has jerkiness (the video jumps) associated with it. The really strange part is the commercials are fine and other shows don’t have this problem on this channel. The problem does not surface on any other channel or show. If I switch my 350 card back to hardware decode it goes away it only happened when using software decoding. I also recorded this show and the playback has the same problem. I an using 4.1.3 version of SageTV and NVIDIA’s current decoder with a Nvidia 6600(when not using the 350 hardware decode). . Any body have any idea as to what might be going on here. Thanks.

Sounds like you're having the same problem myself and at least a few others are, where the Nvidia decoder doesn't work properly when trying to use Smart deinterlacing instead of Automatic. It can cause exactly the problem you described.
Open the Nvidia tray icon and change the deinterlacing from Smart to Automatic. The Nvidia decoder has problems with certain shows from some stations such as Law & Order from TNT. Another that gives regular problems for me is the Dead Zone on USA. There are a few more, but I can't think of them at the moment. |

why would interlacing be show-specific?

From my vague understanding, content is flagged Film or Video. When the decoder is set to Automatic, how it treats the content depends upon the flag. The problem is not all content is flagged properly, which is where the Smart setting comes into play. When you set the decoder to Smart it doesn't rely on the flag to tell it whether the content is Film or Video. Some shows on certain networks seem to confuse the decoder's Smart setting for some reason and severe artifacts and stuttering occurs. |
