should be great but I'd be surprised if it is as the DSM-520 is and WinMCE extender...

It's not a WinMCE extender. It has the ability to use Windows Media Connect, which is a whole different ballgame, that lets you playback media files on an XP machine.
As long as they release an SDK, or at least expose the interface to external modules etc.... Then I'm sure somebody in this forum will have the knowhow to make Sage appear as the interface on this sucker.

If you have one of those units you should try to get them to release the linux kernel source.

Prismiq
Dunno about the DLink one (I had the other model where it wouldn't play files larger than 2GB and the support said, "it never will - split your files up"), but I would LOVE to be able to use the SageTV interface on the Prismiq box (http://www.prismiq.com, http://p102.ezboard.com/bprismiqunofficialforum).
The Prismiq can play raw VOB as well as AC3 (albeit, the volume on AC3 is low, but at least it plays). What's more, the Prismiq allows me to choose which audio stream to play (like if I keep the dir commentary in my rips) which is cool. I know they have opened some stuff up, but not being a developer, I'm not really sure if it is enough to be able to do anything cool with it. What I do know is that I can telnet to the Prismiq and I can also connect on a different port and send commands to control the unit from a terminal. |

Edit: Found it. Source code for DSM-520 according to DLink anyway. BobP. Last edited by BobPhoenix; 03-21-2006 at 10:15 AM. |

The link seemed interesting but it doesn't contain the source to the linux kernel used on the dsm-520... They only include lgpl libraries they are using (and the directory it extracts is called LGPL_release)

Best info I have been able to find...
http://www.suphammer.net/Hardware/DSM520 He at least knows what linux distribution is used and how the firmware is setup. And was able to get telnet services enabled to the box... |

both the 320 and 520 look like they would make good HD extenders. (I'd prefer the 320 since it has a built-in DVD drive and media reader.) Hopefully, that's what Sage is going to do. Since these devices already exist, Sage would just have to ink a deal with D-Link and then port the software to the devices.

What does this mean?
Notice at the bottom of this page IOdata and Buffalo are linked. There is the caveat "Requires installation of the LinkTheater software on your PC." Can either of these read the Show information, or do you have to pick by file name?

File name. None of the show information is embedded in the files. There's nothing to read.
