Licence / Upgrading???

I'm sure I just missed it somewere but I realy did read the FAQ etc and it isn't realy made clear....

I purchased the SageTV bundle quite a while back and I'm currently running 2.2.8. If I upgrade to the current ver 4.1.X do I need to buy a new licence or is my current licence still good?

The v2 SageTV license is still valid for v4.

You're still good; just install the upgrade.

The fact that Frey doesn't charge us for new versions is a huge plus in my book.

I sortof though so. I have two machines and had moved my card from one to the other to make a deticated box. So I installed it on my old machine that no longer had the card just to see. Sorry I'm deathly afriad of crewing up my TV box. I live and die by it...

I REALY like 4.x lots of great improvements to things that I constantly get anoyed at. Little tiny things that just weren't quite perferct and now they seem to be... Makes me realy glad I bought this package thx for the quality stuff.

I think I'll copy my favorites files like that post says just in case the update goofs.....

The only other thing I'm REALY interested in is a way to edit out comercials so I can save certian stuff. Any suggestions?

For commercial skip, search the forum for 'Show Analyzer' and 'ComSkip' which should accomplish what you are looking for. If you want to archive the recording, search the internet for "VideoRedo", which if using Show Analyzer will automatically remove commercials prior to burning to DVD.

Yeah I'm not worried about when I watch stuff. That is one of the things I LOVE about SageTV is that 10 sec skip the new 2 button setup is even better. I'm talking about a way to actualy trimm down the size of the MPG files for arciving. Odly enough that VideoRedo is what I DLed 10 min after I posted this. Anyone know of anyhting better? or maybe something that is free?

You only think you're not worried about commercial detection. If you ever set it up you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

As for actually editing out the commercials I think most people use VideoRedo.

Also the point being Showanlyzer can create a Videoredo Project file that will list the commercial cuts and show up in the Videoredo editing window. You can fine tune it or just tell it to save it and you now have a commercial-less mpg file.
