Comskip and DirMon2

Hi

I installed DirMon2 0.5.4, Comskip 0.79.25, and comskip_playback_import.stvi.

When I run Comskip from DirMon2 against an mpg file (that SageTv did not convert to an avi) everything works as expected. That is, SageTv recognizes the txt file that Comskip produces and skips over commericals during playback.

When I run Comskip from DirMon2 against the SageTv recording directory, comskip outputs an empty txt file and the comskip log file contains the error 'No Video Found'. I'm assuming that this has to do with the fact that SageTv converts the mpg to an avi as soon as the recording is complete then deletes the mpg.

What can I do to resolve this problem?

Thanks

Where do you get the idea that Sage converts a file to avi? All Sage recordings are .mpg and stay that way unless you have something else going on with your installation. Even any transcoding to the MVP doesn't change the original file.

Hey

All shows are recorded as mpg. Once the recording is complete a tmp file is created, the mpg is converted and streamed into the tmp file, the tmp file is renamed to avi, then the mpg is deleted. The whole process takes about 1 minute per 30 minute recording.

Are you sure that SageTv doesn't do this conversion?

Hey

I made a mistake. Comskip is working fine. It was failing becuase the mpg file was encoded as MPEG-4 (I have a Plextor ConvertX). Once I configued my recording device to save the files as MPEG-2, everything worked fine.

Oh. It seems that SageTv onle converts the mpg to avi when the mpg is MPEG-4 encoded.

BTW: that mpeg2-wrapped format is used when mmc/enable_mpeg4_timeshifting is true (I believe that is the property). After the ConvertX's mpeg4 recording is done, it gets 'unwrapped' and stored as an avi file. This allows watching the show while it is recording.

Well that explains it. Good to see you have it working.
