Divx and Mpeg4 files

I've downloaded a couple of Divx and Mpeg4 files to My Video directory and can't get Sage to play them. If if run Nero Showtime, they play.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

What Sage version are you using? Some of us are having trouble with the latest Beta's. What video drivers are you using?

Divx MPeg4

I just downloaded the trial version 3 days ago.

What drivers should I be using? I wish I could use the Nero Drivers, but it doesn't give me that choice.

Another Note...

I guess my real interst is to get it to play DVD files that have been recoded by Nero Recode into Nero's MPeg4 format. It just doesn't recognize them.

For Nero AVC files, you'll need to check out GermSage, a customized STV. Check the customize section. Does your install see the .divx files at all?

It sees the Divx files, but just plays the audio on a black screen. It doesn't see the nero MPEG-4 Files at all.

That's the same scenario I had. Are you using the 84.21 NVIDIA VGA drivers? FSE?

I had the same issue. All I had to do is to download and install the DIVX Player.

play any file type in sagetv 4.x.x

i had the same problem - along with the sagetv mpeg decoder causeing hella high proc usage (98% on an amd 64 3200+)

this is what i did to fix the problem....
i installed the k-lite mega-codec pack with default options (google edskes file mirror to find it)
then in detailed setup i picked the ffdshow mpeg filter (and ac-3 decoder for audio) for both dvd and video/audio
then not only did my processor usage drop down to 10% but all my divx/xvid, mp4's, etc played perfectly in sagetv.
this worked for the clients too... i'm able to play anything on a 750mhz proc with 256mb mem now with out huge processor hits.

to get other files types to show up you have to add them in your sagetv.properties file on the right line
i believe it's this line
seeker/video_library_import_filename_extensions=.mpg,.mpeg,.mp2,.mpeg2,.mpe,.avi,.divx,.mpg1,.ts,.wmv,.asf,.wm,.tivo,.m2t
just add the extensions like mp4, ogm, RM, mov, etc - whatever you need to be detected...

the codec pack will add codecs for real and quicktime with OUT installing their bloat/adware - in fact - all codecs are installed with any bloatware (i.e. divx 5.2 free edition) and it'll support encoded dvd playback (ffdshow will i believe) - and on top of that it won't steal associations from media player (like quicktime, realplayer etc)

hope this helps...

Are you talking about ASP, AVC or both types of mp4 files?

On my setup, turning off FSE allowed them to play...turning on FSE played audio, but no video...with the Windows Taskbar flickering through on the bottom. Going back to a previous version that used to work with .divx, was a bust...which makes me think it may be NVIDIA driver related. I upgraded to 84.21. I was using 84.12 when everything was fine.

Is it possible to play mpeg 4 AVC High Profile in Sage yet or do we still need an external player like Nero Showtime?

Thanks,
Mike

So everytime I change the properties file to add the mp4 entry, it restores it to the old settings when I run sage. Ever have this happen?

Are you sure you have everything Sage related shut down? Sometimes if you change something while it's running, it won't stick.

You have to completely exit Sage, not just put it to sleep. If you're running the service it must be stopped as well.
