what format for video import library?

I know the system can handle both avi and mpg. Besides the size difference, is there an advantage using the avi format, or should it be mpg? If the latter, what should the configuration be? I don't think it is spelled out anywhere what the mpg should be.

Thanks,

Theoretically, anything that Windows Media Player can play will play in Sage: if WMP can play it, you have the decoders on your system that can play the content.

Note that both avi and mpg (and wmv/asf) are wrappers -- like envelopes -- for separately encoded video and audio streams. Its whats inside that counts -- the type of video encoder and the type of audio encoder.. There are other types of less common wrapper as well (.ogg, .mkv, .mp4)

(Regarding size, on my system I have 300Mb AVIs containing 5mins of video (MJPEG files created by my digicam) and 300Mb AVIs containing 45mins of video (MPEG4/DivX)...)

Thanks,
Just curious, how did this question get out under my name? I never posted it.

It seems to have been posted by you a year ago (04-05-2006, 07:13 PM)... I don't know why it would have just showed up again.

Thanks Andy. I guess I cannot remember that far back. ;-)

Wierd. I saw it in my 'new posts' search results after I had been offline for a week... I didn't notice that it was so old

I know, I seem to recall seeing it as new recently too. After wjohn said he hadn't posted it, it took me a while to figure out the date. Maybe it is a forum bug... I'm thinking of going to the vBulletin forum to yell about it and call those developers names. I'm fairly sure that will help get their attention so they can fix it.

<sigh> Just when this topic got going, we derail it on a side topic...
