Clueless Sage 2.1 Haupauge MVP user upgrading to 4.1 needs help
I read through the docs and am still confused about how exactly I go about upgrading my 2.1 sage/Haupauge network to 4.1. Currently I have sage 2.1 server running on a seperate machine then my sage 2.1 client which uses the old sagetv haupauge plugin that connects through the client.
When I upgrade to 4.1 what exactly do I need to do to get my haupauge mvp to work through 4.1 directly? Can I use the same client license that I was using or will I need to order another one specifically for the MVP? I don't need the client on that machine since I never watched sage on it, I just used it as a proxy for the MVP. |

There was a short period of time when 4.1 first came out you would have been able to convert your client license to an MVP license but that time has passed, so you have to buy the $29.95 license to get the MVP to run natively on 4.1. There is 7 days trial to try it out before you make the commitment to 4.1, just keep an eye on the beta's. I am still on 4.1.3 because of problems with 4.1.4 thru 4.1.11 with the MVP. I am going to try out 4.1.12 this weekend.
I dont know if the old MVP client will work with 4.1. |

The MVP support is built into SageTV v4.1 now, so you have to make sure that no other MVP controlling software is running, including that SageTV client plugin that was previously controlling it. There is a blurb at the end of the v4.1 PDF manual regarding how to enable the MVP media extender server in SageTV. If you haven't already checked out the v4.1 manual, there is a link to it in my sig lines.
The client license is not the same as a media extender license, so you would need a Media Extender license. I believe there is a 7 day trial period from the time you first connect an MVP to your SageTV server. Edit: Also, there is a thread in the beta forum section that talks about installing an update: How to install a new version of SageTV - Andy

K so I guess I won't upgrade right now then if they are having MVP issues with 4.1. My wife would kill me if I screwed that up.
I'm having major issues with 2.1 and playing dvd's off the hard drive. Some dvd's play fine while others get stuck and cause sage to spin and suck up 100% of my cpu utilization. I have to use skip to get out of it and it doesn't always work. I thought it might be my video card so I got rid of my nvidia and went out and bought an ATI card and am using the ATI decoder now but it still hangs but on different dvds now. It never ever hangs while watching mpeg files that sage recorded thought which is a plus. I was hoping upgrading to 4.1 might solve those issues but I guess I can't upgrade if the MVP isn't working properly. |

FWIW I use the old MVP client (Matt's plug-in) with my 4.1 install. I tried briefly to get the native support for the MVP to work, but it just wasn't happening for me. One of these days I'll try the native support again, but for now Matt's plugin works fine on my 4.1 set-up.

did you upgrade the sage client to 4.1 or are you still using the old sage 2.1 client?

ok so if I understand correctly, I can upgrade my server and client to 4.1 and Matt's plugin allowing everything to stay exactly how I have it configured?
The Sage server won't get confused with some sort of auto discovery of a media mvp on the network that it does not have a valid key or configuration for? |

Just disable the MVP service in 4.1. It in Detailed settings-right under the enable Sage server I believe.

Right - I upgraded the server to 4.1 and the client to 4.1 and left everything else relating to Matt's plug-in and my SageTV folder strcuture the same. I fired it all up and everything was as reliable as usual.
Edit: And I disabled the MVP service in the 4.1 detailed setup as Gerry has suggested. |

Just remember if you have multiple MVP's you can't use the -multi command and launch multiple clients sessions for the MVP client plugin with SageTV 4.1.
