Fixed IP

Can I set the MVP to a fixed IP and turn off DHCP on my router?

Yes. Has been available since 4.1.4 and is configured by:

Quote:
Enabled static IP clients for the MVP server, this can be configured through 2 properties. The gateway is set by: miniserver/gateway and defaults to 192.168.0.1. The static client IP addresses can be set by: miniserver/clients and should be of the form: MVP/00:0D:FE:00:A0:4E/192.168.0.111 with multiple entries being separated by semicolons ';'
and
Look here for tips on setting up your router for MAC specific static IP addresses

Been there, done that. Seriously I was hoping there was another way. I have tried this 4 times to no avail.

1.) Turn off TV Service
2.) Set Gateway and IP address as shown.
3.) Turn off DHCP in router
4.) Turn back on TV Services
5.) Reboot (unplug and plug in) MVP
6.) Nothing ... just sits there looking for DHCP server

Now I did notice that after I enter the MAC address and save, when I go back in it changes to this:
MVP/00\:0D\:FE\:00\:03\:14/

I did not put the slashes in. Are you using this Para and did you get it to work? Do you have slashes?

I use DHCP not static IP addresses.

If you are disabling the DHCP on the network, how are you assigning an IP address to the MVP? I don't know if Sage will/can assign an IP through BootP if that is what you are expecting. I believe the MVP comes set up from the factory to connect to an IP addess of 192.168.1.1 and updates it's own IP when connected (typically to a network DHCP server). Are you setting the router up with the MAC/IP address mapping as described in Nielm's post? If you are not, I am uncertain if the MVP will keep whatever factory default setup it has, and if it did, is that address already assigned? Maybe to your router? modem?

Yeha I never got that to work either. I ended up changing the ip range my dhcp server chucks out to keep the mvp away form my used static ip addresses.

Sorry, I tried it the way I believe you are wanting to make it work and I couldn't get it to work either.

The MVP is still looking for an IP address. I couldn't even get the MVP to connect to SageTV with a crossover cable (which is something the Hauppauge software supported).

I can only suggest contacting tech support if you have not yet.
