Watching from multiple clients

I'm researching SageTV as a replacement for an aging Tivo with video distributed through the whole house. Right now, we can pause the Tivo in one room, and relocate to another and keep watching from where we left off. (It's all just replicated video from the same box.)

I played around with MythTV some time ago and found it had a bookmark style feature for this. If you stopped watching on one client, you could bookmark the spot and resume from the same place in the video feed from another client.

I'm planning to have a SageTV server and several Media Extender Clients. Does SageTV have any facility for this? What happens when I stop one client mid-show and start watching the same show on another client?

thanks for the info,
jay

When you stop a recording, SageTV remembers how much of it you have watched, so the next time you start playing that recording, that is where it will begin. There is an option in Detailed Setup -> Customize for completely watched shows to have their watched status reset the next time they are played. (I think you have to stop playback for the current play position to be stored. I don't think it updates the watched amount status as it goes.)

None of this applies to imported videos, since SageTV doesn't store how much you have watched.

What would be really nice is if multiple clients could be synchronized for when I'm moving back and forth between rooms. Even if it just worked like this for music I'd be happy.

So, I'm confused by the above responses. If I watch 37 minutes of an hour long program in Room A, stop the playback, start watching in Room B, does the playback resume 37 minutes in?

Yes.

What sleonard meant was that he wants to be able to play the same thing simultaneously in multiple rooms such that all locations are synced such the video & sound matches from room to room. SageTV doesn't do this.

Thumbs up

I have to add that this is one the coolest features of SageTV. I often get thrown off my plasma set and have to pick up watching my show either on my computer or on another TV in the house.
