Sage Setup And Key Mappings

Hello - I finally figured out how to use my remote control with Sage and other programs but I noticed something interesting. Some of the commands do not have a key mapped to them (like PREVious channel, Music, etc). It seems that when I map them to a key (so that I can then use my 3rd party remote control program to send Sage that keystroke) it only maps it for that one Sage Client. I'm not understanding why it doesn't map for all Sage clients.

Would it be detrimental for me to automatically "clone" the Sage Client properties to each computer workstation (since that is where the keys are stored)?

Thanks,
Mike

Why would it automatically do that? What if you had a different type remote at each client? Or MVP extenderer? Just map it at each client. It's not that hard or time consuming.

Plus, you don't really want to just copy the properties file from one system to another, since there may be some settings custom to one machine.

I think you could copy the keyboard_accelerators property if you've customized several keystrokes, but for just a couple keys, it would probably still be quicker just to reassign at each client. The same goes for all the ui/rc_mappings/xxx properties, but they only apply if you are using the same remote + receiver directly used by SageTV.

Good points made - I hadn't thought about different remotes at different TV's. Actually, I have 5 keys assigned so it won't be a problem. I'm now using the HIP program to control several programs including Sage so it's only the key reassignments I need to take care of.

Thanks again for the support,
Mike
