NVidia Random Problems
Someone please help me with this one because I'm at a real loss. I've tried using the NVidia decoder several times and the problem is I'll watch Live TV and everything works great. Then if I simply watch Sage Recordings I'll get a playback exception errors. Sometimes I'll get the exception error when I decide to watch Live TV. It's totally unreliable which makes me go back to the Sage TV decoders but everyone here says Nvidia is better. What can I do to make this more reliable? It's totally unpredictable on all my workstations (running XP Home and Pro). It's licensed and I cannot get it to work reliably on any computer.
(edited: also, what do you recommend as far as the other settings such as VMR or Overlay? Bob or Bob and weave or neither, etc). Thanks, Mike |

This also seems to help with unexplained renderer problems. |

Try VMR 9 with everything at default. See my post #6

What video card do you have? I was having similar problems with random video rendering errors. I re-installed the latest released nvidia video card drivers and the problem was fixed. I'm using the intervideo renderer and overlay, nad have no problems anymore.

On one computer I have an All in Wonder Radeon (but I'm not using the tuner part of the card as that is all done on the server). Two other computers have ATI cards buiit on the motherboard and another computer I'm not sure. It doesn't work on any of them. To date - nothing is really reliable except the Sage decoder. I just don't understand it. If I install NVIDIA and get the updates it should work.
By the way - I'm just curious, should I consider a different graphics card? Are there any graphics cards that have hardware decoders built on the card? Frankly, I would think with the power of the CPU and computers I have I shouldn't need to worry about it. My file server is doing all the encoding with Hauppauge cards so the workstations are free to only do decoding. What's wrong? Thanks, Mike |

Try an older version of the video card driver. That was another problem I had, I was using beta drivers, and everything slowed down. Maybe go back one version of the drivers?
I've only used nvidia cards with my set up, so I'm not too familiar with the ATI's

Actually it was an older version (NVidia) and that didn't work so I upgraded to PureVideo and that didn't work either.
Thanks, Mike |
