MVP not playing imported videos

I am probably boring you all with this, but I really need help.

I am unable to play videos edited with Nero 7.0 as an imported video from my MVP. They play fine with the server, but not on the MVP. Unedited TV recordings play fine from my MVP, as does an unedited TV recording copied from the recordings directory into my imported video directory.

Several of you have recommended that I try VideoRedo, which is fine, but I really would like you use Nero, as I have already shelled-out the money for it. And besides, the edited videos play on the server!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running 4.1.14. I can send a sample edited video for anyone interested.

Is the video decoded on the server and streamed to the MVP, or does the MVP access the file directly and decode it itself?

If the MVP is doing the decoding, what decoder is it using? Is there a way to specify the decoder that it uses - e.g., use the same decoder that the server is using (since the server works fine)?

Thanks for the help.

The MVP has a hardware mpeg2 decoder. If that is the file type, it just gets sent to the MVP for playback. If it is something else, SageTV tries to transcode it to an mpeg2 format that can be played by the MVP. But, I don't know what would cause your edited video not to play.

Mine can't play imported videos either. They are all files that were recorded by prior versions of Sage and backed-up prior to setting up the MVP. Now it won't play any old Sage files.

[EDIT: I just checked these files within Sage and from WMP, and they won't play in any of them. Any idea what's happening? It's just a black screen.]
