Other input for hauppauge remote?

Here is my setup. server in the basement with two 150 tuner cards. the main htpc computer is upstairs for playback of movies and tv. I'd like to keep it this way and retain the use of my hauppauge 45button remote. is there a good way to do this? I'm asking because as most know the hauppauge remote IR receiver plugs into the back of the 150 pci card with a micro/mini plug. So the question is, can I use another IR plug that has a serial connection on the htpc upstairs and just load the remote software for hauppauge?

Its seems another way of solving this is to move the pci 150 card upstairs and set it up as a network encoder card, which seems like a roundabout way of doing things.

It seems from what i've read another option is to pickup a MCE remote and use the remote with its USB connection, but I'd rather not have to buy anything extra. I also have an older pinnacle studio remote that comes with an IR serial connector (the one that I was thinking about using above). I'd rather not use that remote because its just clunky, but I have used it with girder in the past.

anyway, thought I'd ask because i know there have been some newer developments recently, such as the MCE remote compatibility, that i might not be aware of.

thanks

The Hauppauge remote software will look for an IR receiver on a Hauppuage tuner. If you want to use the Hauppauge remote, you would have to get another receiver such as a USB-UIRT (you won't be using the Hauppaueg IR software at this point). Or, you could switch remotes completely to something like the MCE remote.

thanks for the quick reply. I figured it would be looking for the input on the pci card, with the hauppauge software.

So is there anyway to use the hauppauge remote, my older serial connector IR receiver, and use girder or other program?

thanks,
