Can MCE Remote configuration be customized?

I've been using a USB-UIRT until just earlier today (when I updated to v5). Unfortunately I've been extremely unhappy with the UIRT due to its far too basic driver (it doesn't understand IR protocols and therefore doesn't know when most IR commands are repeating). It's just a dumb IR tokenizer.

Anyway, using the UIRT I had a bunch of IR signals set up to fire off specific commands. And those commands don't seem to be mapped by default using the MCE configuration.

I want to access the following commands that currently are don't have any default MCE button assigned to them:

Delete
Scheduled Recordings
Search
Fullscreen/Window Toggle
Setup
TV
Options

On a more versatile note, I'd simply like to be able to pick which MCE button corresponds to which SageTV command. I'd rather not have to install any third party utilities to remap buttons (such as Girder) - that would mean turning off MCE support in SageTV and letting it go the keyboard or message route.

Any help appreciated. I don't mind editing config files manaully if I have to for now. Hex, XML, doesn't matter to me.

SageTV responds according to the Windows multimedia messages that the MCE remote software sends out. To change what each button does, you would have to use something like Girder, or use a USB-UIRT instead of the MCE receiver, etc.

I've got a Harmony 880 and MCE keyboard talking to an MCE receiver. I just used the MCE keyboard to teach the 880 any commands that weren't native. Maybe I'm not understanding what you want to do, but if you could borrow an MCE keyboard....????

Probably what's being asked for here is what I have working by using Girder. Basically, in Girder, I have declared the "My Music" button to set a program as watched. Since I am programming this via either the Harmony website for one of my remotes, and through JP-1 for another remote, it is not confusing to anyone, as on the remotes being used, there is no "My Music", just that code being sent when a given button is pressed.

Since I have no need to go into my music listings (navigating there with the standard remote buttons is sufficient for me), I re-used that button for a different feature.

I find it a bit depressing that you cannot do that level of configuration in SageTV. All that would be needed is to intercept the Windows message and have it do something different than its original function.

Perhaps the customization like this will come in a future release (I hope). I'd really like to drop Girder.

I want to do exactly what aperry described. And I thought I was pretty clear in my original post that 1. I don't want to use girder (it's terrible software in pretty much every way), and 2. I just stopped using the UIRT because its drivers stink and it's not as compatible as is necessary with most remote protocols in use today (NEC, Sony, etc..)

I do have a tool that I prefer to Girder, called uICE, but it doesn't support the MCE receiver.

Sage support for the MCE remote is severely lacking. A number of the buttons aren't used for anything. There's also no way to get to the main menu from what I can tell.

Teaching my Harmony additional commands from an MCE keyboard will only get me more MCE commands Sage doesn't do anything with.

While I'm talking about commands I'd also love to see some new commands added to Sage, like a guide toggle (toggles between Guide and TV). And one I mentioned a long time ago... LiveTV should actually jump to LIVE, not timeshifted TV.

I'm going to give HIP a try. It does what one would use Girder for (simulating keystrokes when receiving IR commands). Then I'll disable the partially-implemented MCE remote support in Sage and just make sure all the commands I want have keyboard shortcuts. It's a bit of a pain, but nothing about SageTV is easy or for the average computer user, let alone consumer.

The "Green Button" takes you to the Main Menu.

For anyone who doesn't know this yet: to get all the other buttons to work, you'll have to select the MCE remote in Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Remote Config. (If you don't see that remote in the lsit, then you aren't using the latest STV from v5.)
