Favorite keeps recording on Blacked out channel...

Channel 9 frequently has duplicate programing (but not always) to channel 8, and more often than not, they will block out channel 9. My favorites will see that it is playing on both channels and keeps picking 9 resulting in a hour of nothing be recorded. Any way to tell Sage not to record from one channel, but still keep the channel active for occasional Viewing?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Go to the Favorite Details screen & limit that favorite to the channel you want it to use.

I've got two problems which are close enough to this one to merit (IMO) adding to this thread:

a) SageTV schedules two simultaneous recordings of a favorite. The first recording is done as the favorite, on the channel to which I've limited the favorite. The second one is (obviously) on a different encoder, on a channel to which I haven't pegged the favorite, and isn't circled by a white border (thus SageTV probably doesn't think of it as a favorite).

b) SageTV is still recording reruns of Six Feet Under even though my favorites entry for Six Feet Under clearly specifies first runs only.

Note: I have intelligent recording enabled.

I could swear that this hasn't always been a problem. It seems to me that SageTV's intelligent recording algorithm isn't smart enough to avoid recording airings of shows that are favorites when they don't match the favorite criteria (channel, timeslot, first run/repeat). In addition, it doesn't seem to be obeying the setting "Deted repeat airings with non-unique IDs" (which I have set to "true".

Any ideas? Is this a feature request or a bug report? Now that I'm running 4 tuners, it seems like more and more often, SageTV is duplicating recordings and otherwise recording things that it shouldn't.

I thought IR has always had that side effect, where it feels free to record such airings that aren't caught by a fav, when the fav limits by channel, time, first run, etc. The way I get around it has been to either mark the reruns as watched, or set up a rerun fav that would record 10 minutes of a single episode & then never record another one by having it set to a limit of 1 w/o autodelete. You could always send it to SageTV for future change consideration.

That's a pretty nifty workaround, Andy. I wonder if there's a way to hide this "dummy" recording from the Sage Recordings list so that it doesn't float there forever.

I don't think there is a built in way to do it. If you never archive anything, I wonder if archiving it would still count it as a recording for the fav & therefore still let the fav meet it max count. Then, just have the SageTV Recordings screen not list archived shows. Or, a customized filter could be added in Studio -- perhaps have it ignore recordings with excess negative start and stop padding.

Archived recording do not count as a recording for the Fav. I have a fav set to record and auto-delete up to 5 episodes. I have 4 episodes archived, and Sage has recently recorded and stored 4 current episodes.
