|
Laptop hardware
I've just received a nice 300GB hard drive for my laptop, and I'm interested in setting up a PVR. Lots of software and hardware options, but I am limited to USB 2.0 or firewire connectivity for the tuner hardware. Any suggestions?
I'm looking at the Siig AVTuner Pro, but can't find any documentation that it would work with SageTV.

I use a Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 and a Diamond Xtremetv PVR500 with my laptop.
I find that, for travelling, the PVR600 is a better unit... doesn't need an external power supply (although it does come with a usb->power cable in case the laptop doesn't provide enough power over the units USB interface) and has a smaller (metal) case. Only problem - both units are based on the same hardware, and the drivers conflict, so you can't run both at the same time without a lot of fighting with the drivers. Stay away from the "cheap" units (like the MSI VoX)... they are software encoders and use a lot of system resources.
