Capture to a Specific Video Path

I remember reading a post sometime back that an option was being planned in a future build to force a capture device to use a specific video path.

Has this option been added, and if so, what is the property name?

Thanks,

-Kevin

Check out the mmc/encoders/####/forced_video_storage_path_prefix property. Set it to the exact first few characters of the directories you want to use from the seeker/video_storage property.

Thanks Andy. And if this machine is a SageTV server acting as a network encoder, will workstations stream recorded shows directly from this machine if they have access to the folder I assign?

As far as I know: they should, as long as they have direct access to the file via using UNC paths as the video recording dir settings.

Just a crazy question..... What if one tuner is set to a drive and it filles up? Is Sage smart enough to automatically override the forced setting and let it record to another drive that has been set as a recording directory or will that tuner card just stop recording anything new?

I think the only info about that, other than trying it to see what happens , can be found here.

Andy,

Is the mmc/encoders/#####/forced_video_storage_path_prefix= setting made in the sage.properties file on the main Sage server machine, or on the network encoder machine?

I'm not sure how much configuring should be done on the network encoder machine versus the main server machine.

I don't use network encoders -- which property file already has that line? I'm guessing the main server, but I can't speak from experience. Maybe someone else already does this for network encoders...

Both property files have this option in them. It would seem most logical to make the setting on the server being that is were all the other recording directories are defined. Hopefully, the system will be smart enough to only use this folder for this one encoder though. That is the only downfall I could foresee with it being defined on the server as once defined, the folder may be in the standard rotation of recording directories.

I guess I'll just have to experiment.

One other related question that you may know that answer too. What is the best approach to setting up favorites to record both an HD and SD version of the show?

One person suggested setting up two favorites, one restricted to the SD channel, and the other restricted to the HD channel. However, this does not appear to work. Sage seems to figure out that the two shows are the same, and it only records one of them (from the encoder with the higher merit value).

So far, I've had to do all my HD recordings by setting up manual recordings, but as you can image that takes a bit of up keep.

Is there a proper way of doing this, or at least a better way than I'm doing it?

Thanks,

-Kevin

Sorry, but I don't know of a way other than dual favorites.
