hauppauge wintv pvr usb2 - stretched picture and "dalek" sound

I have been using the wintv pvr usb2 successfully with sage for 6 months. Over the last couple of weeks when I tuned to a satellite channel (from a sky digital box) I saw that the picture has stretched and moved down 6 inches - so the onscreen epg doesn't fit on the screen and there is a black border at the top. The sound has also become garbled so that everyone sounds like a dalek.

At first the workaround was to open the hauppauge app wintv2000. The video played fine in there and after that the video played fine in sage too. Tonight I tried to update the hauppauge drivers and now it is worse than ever. The picture is constantly as described above and wintv2000 won't play anything anymore.

I have tried rolling back to the original drivers but nothing I do seems to make a difference any more.

Any body seen this problem before? I am using the composite input, I tried switching to s-video but the problem is the same only in black and white. I kinda feel that my hardware is borked.

In the end I used system restore in windows xp and started a totally fresh sagetv installation. This has resolved the weird problems I was having
