Media issue - playback on 350

I eventually got my installation all up and running and even have it up with 5.0.4, but one problem that I've continued to have is with any media other than Live TV and TV recordings. If I attempt to play MP3 files, it will say that they are playing, yet nothing will be heard. It's like it's trying to go out through the Sound Card instead of out through the Hauppauge card attached to my stereo.

With DVDs, it will play the DVD on the monitor that I have attached to my HTPC, but the video will not show up on my TV. It simply plays within a SageTV window on the monitor. The same audio issue arises. No sound. The menus are still accessible on the TV. I have the NVIDIA DVD decoders installed on the PC and I am using those.

I guess what it seems like it that it doesn't know how to push the audio/video out through the PVR-350 card and is instead trying to use the PC? Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to default all of this through the 350?

I have a PVR-150 and a PVR 350 in the machine.

You are trying to play through the 350? The 350 has a hardware decoder that can decode mpeg2 (thus you can play your recordings), but it cannot decode DVDs, so you can't use it to play a DVD. I have no idea how it works regarding mp3 files.

If you want to play formats other than what the hardware decoder can handle, you will have to go through your video card.

So it appears that I can't modify SageTV to use the PVR-350 as the primary audio/video output? I was just curious because it seems to have all the settings there and I'm using the NVidia PureVideo Decoders for DVD. I guess I'm just confused as to how the output's decoding is being controlled from within Sage.

So everyone who wants to use the the built-in Music and DVD functions are using their video card and audio card?

The 350 can only output MPEG2 files to the TV, it can't do anything else. You can't play DVDs, AVI, Divx, Xvid, mov, etc. In SageTV, it can't output music to the TV either, so no MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, Ogg, etc. You only get music through your PC speakers. It can output Pictures and Album Arts, but thats about it. It has lots of limitations, but the picture quality is excellent.

But do what I do, get an MVP and forget the 350. The MVP's picture quality almost as good as the PVR-350, and it supports everything else that the 350 does'nt, which is most of the other video and music formats. Plus the MVP doesn't inherit any of the problems that the 350 has (EOF, lockups, crashes, etc.).

The 350 is still a tuner, so just use it as an encoder like your PVR-150.

Thanks for the info. All of this is making me rethink my current solution.
