Sage 5x Always crashes

I used Sage for a while back when it was 2.x-something - before they supported the PVR-150.

Since 5.0 came out I've been trying to use Sage again, but it keeps crashing on me, usually while I'm at work or asleep - meaning I miss recording shows. I've tried a number of things to get it working again, but every version does it.

I've tried reinstalling XP, using just my PVR-150 or my PVR-250, re-installing Sage, tried new Sage versions (this actually started after a 2.x upgrade - the first one to support the PVR-150), and even replaced my motherboard from a VIA to to nVidia chipset.

But it won't stay up for more than 10 hours. I don't get any error message, or event log entry - I just come home to Sage having shut down completely.

The only things I haven't really tried is switching to an Intel CPU or motherboard, or trying a new brand of capture card.

Can anyone tell me what I can do for the best chance of getting a stable sage install (please don't tell me to re-install sage or the OS, it's been done many times)? I prefer Sage over all the other options, but I can't use it like this.
