mobile Radeon X300 + Placeshifter = 3d acceleration problem

Hey guys,

I am having a problem enabling 3D acceleration when using Placeshifter.
I am running it off my laptop which has a mobility radeon x300 with 64mb dedicated ram. I have directx 9.0c installed.

The program complaints that my card should have at least 32mb of ram and that directx should be up to date.

Oh, I am using version 5.04 and have sageMc installed.

Thanks!

Try updating your video drivers. I suggest using the Omega drivers:

Well, it works fine with 3D acceleration disabled.

What's your CPU usage with 3D acceleration enabled?
I will test and post mine tonight.

You can't use 3D acceleration on the Placeshifter at this time (the option's showing up because you're using a custom STV)

Yes, I am using a custom STV.
I guess VMR9 is also out of the question with PS as you need 3D acceleration for it.

Does the client face the same issue?
I am asking that because I get no image with the client if I enable 3D acceleration, but it works fine with 3D disabled.

My CPU usage is 28-34%.
Specs: centrino 2Ghz laptop with 2GB ram driving two dell 2001FPs / MCE OS / Max quality MPEG (5.9GB/hr) through LAN.

Placeshifter only plays via Overlay.

SageTVClient can use VMR9 or Overlay, and has the option to use 3D Acceleration. If you can't use 3D Accel with the client, then you should try a different video card driver or make sure DirectX is really the latest one.

Thanks for the tips.

Are there ever really been a case where the drivers prevented the use of VMR9?

I am using the latest Dell ATI drivers for my laptop. They are very stable and work fine with everything else (games, DVD with hardware acceleration, etc.).
I have directx 9.0c installed and tested.

I will try the client again using just my laptop screen instead of the two dell 2001FPs.

Regardless, I am satisfied with PS. I only wish for less CPU usage.
Playing DVDs use much less CPU.
