Changing channels on comcast SDTV boxes

What's the best method available for changing channels on comcast SDTV boxes? When we upgrade to digital cable, I'll be setting up three of these boxes. I'm familiar with the USB-UIRT in BeyondTV and was wondering if it would be possible to use serial cables instead. I'm not sure which models of their boxes the cable company will have available. Any recommendations?
