Does media extender have all features?

I am very interested in Sage TV. Before I start this project I have one question. I like the idea of having my PVR as a "central server" in my office and then simply purchasing the media extender for each room. That feature is HUGE!!!!

However, will the media extender work the same as if the computer was hooked directly up to the TV? In other words, live TV, timeshift (pause and rewind/ff live tv), search, guide, view recordings etc... all work the same through the media extender? Is going through the media extender the same as having the computer hooked up to the tv?

Thanks.

Mike

Yes, it has the same interface and features as a regular client.

The only thing that will not be supported is the DVD feature. It will not even be visible on the Media Extenders menu. You can rip/copy/convert a DVD onto the Servers hard drive, but you will not be able to watch DVD's directly from the DVD drive on the server. It could be a small issue or a large one.

All of the DVR functions will work exactly like the PC hooked to a monitor.

Pictures and Music will also work but stick with standard formats. The transcoder in SAGE is good but some specific music formats have been found to not transcode well for the Media Extender and it can put a burden on the Servers CPU. The Extender support Mpeg 1, 2 and 3 natively, anything else will require the trancoder in SAGE.

I hooked my second MVP up last night. I was anxious to see if I got any "slowness" by having 2 MVP's and the central Sage all 3 working at the same time...

No problem at all...I was watching a recorded show in one room, My daughter was watching live TV in another room and my wife was wacthing a DVD through the "server" sage in another room...and no degradation at all...

it will beinteresting to see what happens when we are 2 of us are "transcoding" movies to watch in different locations.

I hooked up a MVP last night.

upon first hookup, everything was great. I could watch live tv, recordings, etc. Same interface as on a PC client.

However, 10 minutes later I moved the tv and the mvp, and reconnected and now I just get the GO menu (Videos, Pictures, Music, Radio, Settings)

Help!!!

Sounds like you're running the Hauppauge MVP software on one of your PCs and the MVP is finding that first. You're lucky it worked before

Shortly after i posted, i figured it out. It worked before I installed the software.

Pissed me off last night, but this morning after I posted, i removed the software and it's working like a charm.

Thanks!
