External player question

A question for you fine folks that have written external player controls into an STV or STVi:

WRT this line in sage.properties:

Quote:
mlbdude/use_external_media_player_tv_files=true
Would it be possible, feasible, messy, impossible, to go one step further and allow this setting to be applied to certain channels in the guide? For instance, on Dishnetwork, we have a smathering of MPEG2, 'quasi-MPEG4' and real MPEG4 H.264 channels. Only the last of the three are truely MPEG4, the others work fine in Sage. What I would like to do is be able to flag Sage to always play shows from say channel 9435 (StarzHD, MPEG-4, H.264) in an external player that can do such playback (at least until such time that we actually get H264 playback ability in Sage, if ever?).

So tell me what you think, just too hard to do?

How are you getting the raw digital streams (that are encoded in the different formats) off your Dish STB? If you view an h.264 program through the S-video out from the box, and Sage re-encodes this in MPEG-2, it doesn't matter that the orginal program was transmitted in h.264.

Now, if you got the raw data out via firewire or something, that would be a whole different story, but I didn't think this was possible with Dish.

Thanks,
Mike
