Switching to service mode?

Helllo. I have been running the trial of Sage the past week. I have registered, and now am trying to run in service mode. It just hangs at "Contacting MediaMVP BootServer" when I switch to service mode. Have I missed something obvious when changing to service mode, or do I have some other problem? TIA

It sounds like you allowed sagetv.exe through your firewall, but not SageTVService.exe.

Well... This is really weird, but after trying service mode, now the standalone mode work work. I have even uninstalled it, deleted the sagetv directory.. and its doing what it was in service mode.

Also, I had tried disabling Windows Firewall after switching to service mode just to make sure that wasn't the problem.

EDIT

Well, I rebooted my switch, and standalone started working... I disabled the firewall and now service mode is working... That is weird as its just an unmanaged switch. Oh well, its working now.

I tried service mode again after not trying it out for some time. Instant problem, the clients were no longer able to play any media. The client connected to the server and started up the GUI but I just can't seem to play anything.

You are using UNC paths, right? Did you have the service log in as a user w/a password, and does that user have permission to access your recording & import dirs?

I have a qustion about service mode... Should I still be able to run the Sage UI on the server running the service? If I try to start it when the service is already running, it starts the wizard.. If the UI is already running, the service will not start.

Yes, the UI can be run alongside the service & you would start the service first.

The UI portion should get its default settings from the previous setup, but it may still need to go through the configuration wizard anyway to confirm/set its display options & so on.

Ok, everything except the keyboard acting more like a remote in the UI is working. LIke when I go to add a new recording directory, if I type \\1, when I type the 1 it brings up a bunch of other characters and have to keep typing 1 to get to it. Is there a way to disable this? I disabled the remote in UI and that doesn't seem to have done it.

That is from Numeric Text Input; its options are covered in the v5 manual, starting on p. 187. In SageTV, go to Detailed Setup -> Numeric Text Input settings.

But, anywhere that such input is available, you can use the Pause command to toggle the numeric text input mode between upper case, lower case, and off.
