Wired MVP thinks it's wireless

I just started setting up a new MVP to replace one that died recently. It is one of the new Model 86019 REV2 wired units.

When I plug it in, it says "Configuring wired device", then "Checking network status", and finally says "connecting to the previously configured wireless access point but is unable to retrieve and IP address". Yep, it's trying to connect to a WAP, even though it's a wired device.

I have: replaced my network switch, tried the MVP on multiple ports on the switch, replaced all the patch cables, esured that the Sage server is running and properly configured, and reviewed my DHCP server's logs. There is NO activity from the MVP in the DHCP log - it's ignoring the wired connection, even though it is "live" - lights on both the MVP's ethernet port AND the switch indicate a connection.

I can't find any information on this problem - any ideas? Thanks!

I had the same issue when I was trying to first set up my MVP. In my case, I was trying connect the MVP directly to the host computer using a crossover cable. I could never get it to work. I ended up putting the MVP on a switch and enabled the DHCP server in my router and it all worked. The only other thing I did was to set a fixed IP address for the MVP in the sage.properties file and reserve that IP address in my DHCP server. Here is the line from the properties file to use as a template. You have to specify the MAC address and the desired IP address for the MVP.

miniserver/clients=MVP/00\:0D\:FE\:0B\:11\:34/192.168.0.20

However, my guess is that the above should not be necessary. It seems like there is a break in the connection between the MVP and the DHCP server. You could temporarily try to connect the MVP directly to the DHCP server with a known good cable (not a crossover cable) and see what happens. Good Luck!

DHCP is live and well - other devices, including other devices using the same switch ports (I did LOTS of swapping to test things), get IP addresses just fine. I've tried giving the MVP a static assignment. The trouble is, by watching the lights on the MVP and the Switch ethernet ports I can see that there is NO activity on the ethernet port - nary a flicker. I don't have a traffic analyzer to hook up, but the lack of port activity combined with the lack of activity in the DHCP logs tells me that the MVP is ignoring the wired connection.

I had a wireless unit. Today I received a wired MVP and two ethernet cables. The wired MVP is awesome. The wireless is the same as it was, which is to say not as good as the non wireless capable unit. I really notice that the smooth fast forward is MUCH better on the non wireless unit. I switched the two units around so that that I knew the ethernet cables have nothing to do with the problem.

When the MVP boots up I go into the network setup and I can see that things are set up for a wired network. I think it was called "Preferred Network" and it was set at "Wired". But I know it's not functioning like my non wireless capable unit.

This is a drag. The non wireless unit makes for a nice system. The wireless has some stability issues, some stuttering, menus not as fast, FF/RW are more like slide shows - the frames just don't change nearly as fast as the wired unit.
