Sending the "widescreen" signal to my TV?

Hi,

This is not really SageTV related and may not even be related to any specific hardware, but I figured I'd ask here anyway.

Is there a way to have my TV-OUT send the signal to my TV to switch to widescreen?
I see some channels do this as I see my TV change to 16:9 when I switch to them and others just simply go to Automatic or Super Zoom.

I would just like my TV to go to widescreen whenever I go to the Sage channel. Is this possible at all?

Thanks.

You need to set a 16*9 resolution as your windows desktop resolution. Ideally you'll want to use your TV's native resolution.

I have done that.
Image is fine as long as I switch my TV to widescreen (it goes to Automatic by default, which usually is some kind of zoom).
Thing is, I don't want to have to switch my TV to widescreen manually, I want it to do that automatically. And, like I said, I know it is possible for a channel to send the correct "command" for this, I was just wondering whether my PC could do the same.

What resolution are you running and what type of connection are you using between the TV and computer?

As long as you're running at a HD resolution the TV should see the HTPC as a HD source and use 16*9.

I'm running 1280x720 on a regular widescreen TV. No HD around here.
Just a composite cable between de TV-Out on my Shuttle and de SCART of my TV.

The only option I know of is to somehow provide the correct voltage on the data pin of the scart connector going in to your tv. This is how DVD players switch your tv from 4/3 to widescreen.

It's my understanding that composite and s-video are limited to 480i, so you might not be sending 1280x720 through it.

Edit: The 480i limit would be for NTSC systems, I would think PAL systems would have to able to use 576i.
