VGA to DVI

I have a Mini-Q PC with only intel onboard extreme graphics, it looks like a Shuttle PC. Anyway, there's no DVI output on the Mini-Q PC, but I want to connect it to a Sony projection LCD (60" XBR) which has a DVI input. So the question is whether this is possible through an analog VGA to analog DVI converter cable? I guess my concern is whether the DVI on the Sony will accept analog DVI or just digital DVI or both? Anyone know for sure?

I think you just have to check the specs for your TV model and make sure it accepts DVI-A signals.

Then just find a VGA-->DVI-A cable.

EDIT: Found something that might be useful http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html

I have no clue, the specification of the TV just says DVI, can't tell whether that means DVI-I, DVI-D, or DVI-A. Its a Sony 60XBR950. Does anyone know where I can get this info? I need to know before I buy a cable for it.

Sorry... couldn't really find an answer for you.

The manual mentions "The DVI-HDTV input terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is not intended for use with personal computers."

I'm not sure what that means exactly, but you might be better off trying to go with component. Either using a transcoder http://www.digitalconnection.com/pro...video/9a60.asp or better yet, if your case can accomodate it, a different video card.

The Mini-Q doesn't have an AGP port, but it has one PCI slot, so I can buy a PCI video card with DVI out. Its not AGP, but I think this is much better than using the intel onboard graphics, especially to drive a 60" LCD. Thanks for the comments.

Amost all TVs say they're not intended for use with a personal computer. The manuals for both of my TVs say that and both work fine through DVI.

Yes, I was told by members here that the reason behind it is that they don't want to offer tech support for computer connections, so they put down "not intended for use with computers" so that they don't have to deal wth it. But it works fine.

I'm just not quite sure what "DVI-HDTV" actually means. Is it an actual specification? Is it HDCP-enabled DVI-D?

its probably DVI-I or DVI-D, one or the other. I don't think its HDCP, the later models might be, but not this one.

HDCP on a DVI input is of no concequence for PCs, HDCP inputs will accept HDCP or non-HDCP connections.

Doesn't it have a VGA input?
