Sage Extender/ Hauppauge MVP - Skinning

I am slightly confussed being new to Sage. The Extender boxes or the MVP boxes, can either of these be skinned? I do not own an extender or MVP as yet, I am trying to figure out which type to purchase. Any suggestions?

TIA

When used with Sage, you can add/use any of the STV's that are out there. I personally use SageMC on my MVP (Extender...)

Thanks for the reply, but is there any differance between the MVD from Hauppauge and the Sage MVP?

Also how do you skin the MVP if it's a hardware device?

The Media Extender is an MVP. The difference is that if you buy it from SageTV, it comes with a license; if you buy it elsewhere, you will then need an extender license if you don't already have one.

The SageTV user interface is shown via the MVP's output to your TV. As part of that UI, you have the option in Detailed Setup -> Advanced to load a different STV... just like on any other device where SageTV runs.

The biggest issue I've had with "skinning" the MVP is selecting the custom skin w/ the remote. Seems all it will show in the list is .stv and all my customs are in .xml which I built from SageTV.xml as a base. A trip to the server box to manually edit the .properties file is the only way to choose. Of course there's probably something simple I'm missing.

You may be using the 'original' stv which only picks up files that have an stv extension. You are right... manually changing the properties file to change sagetv3.stv to sagetv3.xml will allow you to 'update' your STV and also will allow you to select additional STVs...

Just don;t go back and select an old STV (one with and .stv extension...)

Are you thoroughly confused?

hmmm. I thought I had selected the Sagetv3.xml as my base STV before I started adding plugins. Guess I'll have to rethink myself. Good thing I keep a txt file w/ the install order of all my addins.
