Setting up with a LCD TV

I need some advice on setting up. I have been running Sage awhile now (I watch mainly through an MVP). I am now getting ready to buy a 46 in. LCD TV. I will have a computer running sage hooked up to this TV. The TV I am considering has a RGB port, but I assume that will not get me the best picture. But my current card on my computer does not have any other video outputs. What do you recommend in terms of video cards I should buy which will have an output that will produce the best picture on the LCD TV? (I hope I asked this in the right way. I will be the first to admit I am not the most well versed in the hardware area.)

I'm using an ATI X1300 Pro, which comes with a component video dongle, and also has a DVI connection. I use the component video myself, and the card does a pretty good job of displaying the tv signal.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Since you got some ATI advice I will throw in my .02 regarding nvidia based cards.

If you have a pci-x16 slot then I would go for a 7600GT. If you have an AGP slot then I would go for the 6600GT. Both cards are commonly available with a component dongle. If you want HDMI then DVI --> HDMI cables are pretty easy to come by.

My pc has an AGP slot so I went with a 6600GT via component to my 42" plasma. Setup with the latest nvidia drivers was a 3 minute affair and the picture is great.

BTW, both the ATI and Nvidia drivers will have some pretty easy to use config/setup options for an HDTV. You will tell it you are using an HDTV at 720p or 1080i and then adjust for overscan. With component that was pretty much all there was to it.

By RGB I assume you mean VGA inputs on your TV? IMHO, VGA has always been better than component for me when it came to outputting to an LCD TV. HDMI/DVI is the best of course, but I had always though VGA was superior (or at least the same) as component in terms of quality.

I am not a vid card guru, but a friend pointed me to the 7600GT stuff, I am *really* considering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125025

Great review:

Yes, and I have a question about that. If you use the standard PC VGA connection, and you are playing back a OTA High Def. recording on SAGE, will the playback be in HDef quality? Or do you have to have a HDMI or DVI (or component) connection to get that good quality playback?
