1.2.2 -- smaudio.ax won't register
I tried installing the new version 1.2.2. Big Mistake. I should have left well enough alone. In trying to install 1.2.2, I got an error message that said the smaudio.ax file would not register. Therefore, SageTV won't work. Then I tried to go back to 1.1.4 but can't get 1.1.4 to work since I'm now getting a java exception error message that says: java.lang.NullPointerException. I tried unstalling everything and then reinstalling 1.1.4, but no joy. Very irritating since SageTV was working with 1.1.4 even with the static beeps, whistles, and sound sync issues that you get with the Creative VB DVCR card. Now it's not working at all after the bad 1.2.2 install. No joy.

Redownload the installer. This has been fixed now. The installer was updated about 8pm PST on Wed.

New error message for SageTV 1.2.2:
"SageTV found the MPEG-II card but was unable to intialize it successfully. It appears to be in a 'stuck' state from a previous crash." So, I uninstalled SageTV 1.2.2 again. Fortunately, now, I'm able to to reinstall SageTV 1.1.4 again and get SageTV 1.1.4 working again since the new version 1.2.2 apparently cleaned things up a bit so I don't get that java error message anymore after going back to 1.1.4. But I had to go into SageRecorder 1.1.4 to get the video settings correct so that SageTV 1.1.4 would work. Correct me if I'm wrong like if you added it to 1.2.2, but it seems to me with 1.1.4 that there is no other way except through SageRecorder to get into the setup particularly if you can't get SageTV to load for those times when you have to adjust the video settings. So, for that MPEG2 "stuck" error message, I guess I'm going to have to download SageRecorder 1.2.2 and go into the setup there to see if it's the same situation with having to set the video to try to fix that in order to get SageTV 1.2.2 to work. |

It took me the longest frustrating time to get back to a successful reinstall of SageTV 1.1.4. After numerous multiple retries in reinstalling and uninstalling over and over again only to get the previously mentioned java error message again and again, I finally figured out that you don't uninstall from the Add/Remove in Control Panel which apparently doesn't do a completely clean uninstall -- but that you have to run the downloaded SageTV installation file to remove everything in order to completely clean out SageTV from the system so I can successfully reinstall 1.1.4. The version 1.2.2 has been a very frustrating time-consuming bust for me.

Ruel,
You found a bug in the software where an old property was propogating over to the new version. To fix it you can either delete the Sage.properties file in the SageTV folder or just open it up and set the property disable_encoder_prep=true That will resolve your problem for now. I've fixed this for the next build.

I tried changing that setting but still no joy.
I'll wait for the next build. 1.1.4 is providing joy for now. ![]() FYI, I have my other little project done but I'm still tweaking it.

With disable_encoder_prep set to true you still get the "stuck" error message?

No error message. But then I couldn't get into the TV. I did go into the setup and put in the setting for VBDVCR. But still no joy.

Did you rerun the Setup Wizard in SageTV? (I don't mean the installer)
As of version 1.2.2 you need to select the capture device through the Setup Wizard; the one in Detailed Setup doesn't affect anything but the relevant settings in Detailed Setup. 1.2.2 is beta software, so this is one of the beta things about it is that capture device selection is a little confusing. Let me know if that helps.

Main Menu --> Setup --> Setup Wizard (sets up the EPG) Main Menu --> Setup --> Detailed Setup (for video, audio, IR, etc. settings) I went into the Detailed Setup and that's where I did specify VBDVCR and that did not work. Last edited by ruel; 03-28-2003 at 12:52 PM. |

No, I mean Setup Wizard. As of 1.2.2, one of the steps of the Setup Wizard asks you to select the capture device; this is because SageTV now supports multiple tuners.

Just to add, Setup Wizard is not just for setting up the EPG but also for setting up your sources as well.

Joy at last.
Geez whiz. One extra step has to be taken when you are merely upgrading the program. Since no multiple tuners before, you didn't have to specify the capture device before in the Setup Wizard, right? Or did you? Doesn't matter now, but I was being told to go to Detailed Setup before with the previous versions. I don't remember seeing any documentation for what seems to be a new extra step for this new version. Correct me again if I'm wrong. Okay, with this new version 1.2.2, SHS mentioned the Setup Wizard first in this thread and I glossed over that because I didn't know about the capture device being specified there. And then Jeff and Dan clarified the need to go to the Setup Wizard. Oh well I need to be told why particularly if there is anything new like what I think is new in the Setup Wizard with the specifying the capture device there. Correct me again if that was there before in the previous versions or if this is documented somewhere in some sort of documentation. Last edited by ruel; 03-29-2003 at 12:50 AM. |

Ruel,
You are running the latest beta version, 1.22. The documentation will catch up, but it isn't there yet. The release notes cover most of the new items, but sometimes things will fall through the cracks. Especially as fast as Jeff pumps this code out. Glad you're up and running!

Your correct. This step was needed because of the new multi-tuner support. It wasn't there before.
New users shouldn't be affected because they will have to go through that setup wizard step. I believe your correct though about the manual. It looks like it needs to be revised to include the step about identifying each tuner in the wizard. Perhaps a new section should be added to account for users upgrading their system and adding cards later on after initial installation advising them that they have to run the setup wizard each time they add a card. We have plans to update the manual for the next release to cover all the changes you are seeing with the beta version. Currently the release notes are your best source of what's changed until the new manual is released.
Of course feel free to post questions here in the forum if something is unclear about the release notes or with the beta release. Dan

We also wanted to wait on updating the manual....because in about a week, I'm going to make it outdated again.
