Version reliability and lack of bugs

Thanks to everyone who has answered questions..

I am about to take the leap towards Sage (and away from MCE), and have demoed both version 2.2 and 4.0...

Is the latest version, 5.4 (?) the least buggy so far? 4.0 seems quite stable, and I'd hate to purchase a more buggy version, but judging from what I read here, that is a possibility. Can you purchase older versions, or only the current release?

The wife factor is extremely important, and she has three Tivo's.

I'd demo v5 if I were you. While I have ZERO experience with past rev's, it appears that v5.0 is very solid and feature-rich. I have had to deal with a few quirks, but they were mostly because I either didn't read the manual, or I'm expecting SageTV to behave like other DVR's I have used in the past (there are some philosophical differences that I'm having to get used to.) But IMHO, the idiosyncracies will be worth dealing with given the overall extendability (and freedom from the Cable Company's huge monthly DVR charge.)

New licenses for the current version (v5) are not backward compatible for earlier versions, so: no, you can't buy a license for an older version.

My personal opinion is that you will want the features of v5 & the upcoming v5.1.

Do you know when the upcoming 5.1 will arrive? Maybe I should just wait for it's demo to make sure.

About the most accurate time estimate for the beta I can give is "real soon".
