Weird crashes after getting STB

I am running Sage 5.0.4.92 with a Hauppauge PVR 150 card. I had it working beautifully using the built-in tuner and an analogue cable feed.

Then I got digital cable and a Scientific Atlanta 1840 STB.

Since then I find that Sage will (after some time) lock up in Standby. So, when I come back to Sage all I get is a black screen. I have to use Task Manager to kill it - it is using all available CPU. Then, when I run it again, it comes up not in Full Screen mode and when I select Full Screen, it crashes. I've read some threads about the Wiz.bin file getting large. My Wiz.bin is 9.9Mb. When running, Sage seems to work just fine, with one exception - see below.

Also, I installed the H IR blaster software after getting the STB (perhaps I should have installed prior to Sage? - I wasn't thinking ahead). But, I couldn't find a code set that worked for the 1840. Then, the next day a buddy ran the same code set test and found one that worked (041). The day after that I couldn't find a code set that worked and I've never had it working since. As you can appreciate, that kind of defeats the object of a PVR.

Hauppauge are sending me a new blaster cable and have referred the problem with STB control to Engineering. That will take some time. :-(

Any ideas about the lockups and crashes? All the problems started at the same time.
