Sage playback Mpeg-4 file?

I have some videos archive that I burned to a DVD that are .mp4, can I play them back in Sage?

These are just files burned straight to disc, I used .mp4 because I got some great quality fitting a 3 hour football game on 1 DVD disc.

If a person was running Sage Client v5.1 (when released) and played an archive in Mpeg4 format which is stored on the Sage Server machine, does the server do the decoding and send the video stream, or does the client read the mpeg4 directly and decode itself?

The reason I am asking is bandwidth requirements (eg a 802.11b which can't even run at full rate).

I realize placeshifter can be used in that environment too, but PS currently has the server doing the decoding whereas my understanding is the client performs its own decoding. I'd like to keep that load off the server.

in any version, it will be the client reading from the server and the client decoding the mp4...

I'm excitedly awaiting the new version with mpeg 4 support. Will it have the support for high profile as well?

In the meantime, what I do is use GermSage and then run the mp4 files with an external media player of my choice.

I have been awaiting this new version as well. But in the meantime, if you want to play mpeg-4 files (Even High Profile) in Sage or Client without setting up an external player then look HERE.
About half way down you'll find a reply from Ryokurin with instructions.

I have an external player on my server but use this method on all my clients...

DVD_Maniac - just curious if you know if this method will also play .MOV files because Nero Showtime will. You see - I have the MovieTimes plug in and I import them into a folder in my video library. So, when playing files, I would want it to play .mov in Sage as well.

By the way, why are you anxiously awaiting this feature if you can already do it?

Thanks,
Mike
