The date had not changed so I thought it was still the old one... I got the transcoding thing sorted out, but now DVDs/VOBs just give a blank screen with a messed up timeline... Does anything have to be added to client or server properties file for this to work?

I don't think this is really doable in Windows, but I would be interested in knowing if the Linux version supported QAM since the linux HDTV card drivers do support it. Since they network, could a linux server serve windows clients QAM video?

thanks,

Looks great so far!

One thing, if you're using the SageTV service, running this new version for the first time appears to hang the computer. Now I know it was updating the database, which took a few minutes for me.

Possibly dumb question - playing with Google videos, they play in monochrome for me. Viewing the same ones on my regular PC in a web browser gives color - is this expected? Any way to change it?

I do agree on this one... It would be nice to have at least some GUI changes for a major new version. Otherwise you don't even see that you upgraded a major version.

Otherwise the new features look fantastic.

This might have been asked already. Is there a standalone (non-install) version of Placeshifter yet?

I just installed Placeshifter on a machine then copied the 9 files (less than 10meg) to a usb thumb drive and it works fine on my laptop. I don't know if that's the proper way, but it works for me!

No new requirements to do the same thing, though with all transcoding, the more power the better.

#2 Can an older style MVP (no native 5.1 support) play un-encrypted DVDs from from DVD ROM drive in server and/or transcode those files to mpeg4? Can it do this from Hard Disk file?
I know it can play them from the HDD, I think it can play them from the server's drive if they're not CSS'd.

Yeah, it takes a while.

I don't recall doing anything special. You're not seeing VOBs are you? You shouldn't, you should just see DVDs.

That's a good idea, I might go that route.

I tried a full DVD at first, but it was blank, so I tried importing just a .VOB, and got the same deal. I'll look at the debug log when I get a chance, guess ill have to contact support if that doesn't show anything obvious. This is DVD playback on the MVP is you didn't catch that...

I purposely started Sage the first time normally, not in service mode, so I could see what it was doing. It took about 15 minutes to totally start up the first time, because it analysed every media file on my system, there are a lot.

Once Sage completed the first startup, I shut it down and then started the service.

Well, this is kind of weird, but I let the blank playback go awhile, and eventually it started playing video... But I have no sound, and the transcoder isn't running, and the timeline is screwed up, which was always the case previously.

Hi team,

great job with another release.

I had a question before i buy/upgrade, regarding the wirless MVP.
I cannot use with device at the moment as the menu takes way to long to open, and the video is stuttering very badly.

Will the new feature below make this better?

"the Media extender conversion quality can be configured in Detailed Setup."

Thanks again.

Chris

It must have taken 15 minutes overall for me too. Might have led to me messing up the upgrade somehow, since after 5 minutes or so with it starting as a service, and no visible feedback, I restarted the computer. Then a bit more messing around (same with auto service startup, so restarted again into safe mode to disable the service) before finally running it as a normal application and seeing the message about updating the database. At which point it all made sense.

But I wonder if my mistake in restarting at the wrong time could have caused the monochrome-only Google video playback somehow. Either that or I could have a bad codec somewhere?

I have no personal experience with a wireless MVP, but that option will affect videos that need to be transcoded in order to play on the MVP; those that the MVP can play natively won't be affected. Standard Quality uses SVCD, which High Quality uses DVD. I'm guessing SVCD, being lower res would use less bandwidth; I'm not sure how much it affects server cpu usage for transcoding vs. network bandwidth.

I agree, screenshots please! (If they are worth posting, I just scanned the manual and saw differences here and there but mainly with the music, photos, etc. menus...) BTW cool feature... past airings and current recordings [currently on hand] on the "additional airings" menu!!!! ...and I was about to ask the guys at sage if that could be implemented... darn mind readers!!!

And not to start a huge ruckus, but is there still a code 5309 that works for some super secret features? if so what are the features if any are new?

P.S. I don't know why I'm so excited... I'm still on the v2.2.2 beta cause I need to rebuild the server from ground up before upgrading and have no time with the house remodeling going on around here
