SageMC Comskip

I have the comskip that comes with SageMC, and I have it enabled, but I have yet to seen a recorded show that was missing the comercials. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi jayrbrown77,

Enabling the commercial detection within SageMC just causes SageMC to call the separate comskip program to do the commercial detection at the end of each show. I think most people do not use this. Rather the preferred method is to use Dirmon2 to monitor all of your recording directories and call either Comskip or ShowAnalyzer (SA) to do the commercial detection. Once the file containing the commercial locations is generated, SageMC will detect this and use it natively. SageMC recognizes both .txt and .edl files. It appears that .edl files result in more accurate skips in SageTV (you only need to generate one of the file types). The other reasons to use Dirmon2 are that it can be setup to run commercial detection as the recording is being made, it can run multiple instances of SA, and it can be set to cleanup orphaned .txt or .edl files after the recording has been deleted. Check out the Dirmon and ShowAnalyzer (or Comskip) threads for details on setting up those programs. Also, there are free versions of all of those programs, however the paid version of SA is much faster than the free version. Hope this helps.

Aloha,
Mike

Alternative

I wrote a tool called Comskip Monitor that does the same thing if you have trouble with the setup MeInMaui recommended.
