Please help, new MVP stopped linking to sage

Hello, I have had Sage TV for quite a while on my HTPC. My wife wanted to be able to watch the shows while she worked out in our excercise room. So I purchased a wireless Media Extender a couple days ago.

I hooked it all up as per the directions. It worked flawlessly for 24 hours!

She went to turn watch it this morning and all it does is sit at the "go" screen and give the "video, pictures etc..." options. It connects to the HTPC because I can stream video files by connecting to the HTPC and finding the file, but it will not actually run the Sage software. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to show the Sage interface on the screen, it just goes to the "go" page and wont show Sage.

Things I have tried:
Reboot, both MVP and HTPC.
Re-enabled the MVP through my HTPC.

I must be doing something in the wrong order, because it can talk to the HTPC, that is obvious, but I just can't get it to show the Sage Interface.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I mean, I guess I can teach my wife how to read the files under the video tab, and she can watch it that way, but good grief, why would it show Sage one day, and not the next? That software is the best feature!!!

It looks like your PC is still running the Hauppauge MVP software. You'll have to stop those processes in order for it to connect to SageTV.

Interesting, I didn't realize that.

How do I turn it off on my HTPC?

Ok, I selected "Stop" on the software for the MVP on the HTPC. When I powered the MVP back up after doing that it said it couldn't find any PC's in the network to link to.

So.... I selected "Restart" on the MVP software again. Back to what it was doing before, just sitting on the "Go" Screen.

I must be doing this wrong.

Stop the services. (even better, right click My Computer, click Manage, click Services, and set the two MediaMVP services to Manual). Make sure the SageTV service or the SageTV GUI is running.

Disable your windows XP firewall (for debug purposes).

Now unplug and plug back in your MVP. Let us know what happens.

1) Clicked, Start, All Programs, Huappauge MVP, Stop. Done.

2) Clicked right click My Computer, click Manage, click Services, and set the two MediaMVP services to Manual. Done.

3) Disable your windows XP firewall. Done.

4) ow unplug and plug back in your MVP.

Boots up, goes to screen that says "can't find a preferred server, press OK to rescan..."

The only way I can get past this is to go back down to the HTPC and select re-start as described in line 1, then I hit "OK" on the remote to rescan, it finds the HTPC and proceeds to the "go" screen where I get stuck.

It does the same thing in both wired and wireless modes

Do you run a static IP on your HTPC or does it get it's IP from some other source? There's another thread covering a problem like this where I, and others, had to set up our DHCP servers to give out the same IP to the MVP each time it was turned on. I even posted some snapshots of network traffic between the MVP and both Sage and the Hauppauge s/w. Hope that helps a little; not all DHCP/router hardware are capable of assigning IPs based on MAC numbers.

Well Hemicuda, you-da-man!

Problem solved.

It requied a static IP to make it finally work!

So, in conclusion, if anyone has this issue and stumbles across this thread in a search.... Here is what worked for me:

Clicked right click My Computer, click Manage, click Services, and set the two MediaMVP services to Manual. Done.

Set static IP to both your HTPC and your MVP.

Unplug MVP, Reboot HTPC so new settings take.

Once HTPC is rebooted, Click Start, All Programs, Huappauge MVP, Stop.

Plug MVP in, let it boot up. It automatically recognized the preferred server (htpc) and gave it an IP address with an X at the end, Sage TV now displays and works flawlessly again.

Thanks again to everyone for you help. I learned a lot from everyone. I'll post again if anything changes.

Just an FYI, once you set the hauppauge services to manual, you shouldn't have to run the Stop script anymore...
