PC goes into Standby too soon.

Howdy all

I'm perplexed. I have my DVR set up to go into Standby (in Windows) after 20 minutes of none activity, which sometimes it does correctly. However. Often it does after 60 sec. This is making me nuts. We'll pause a show for snacks or whatever and it shuts down on us. Argh!!! I've checked the bios and it seems fine.

Any suggestions? TIA.

WinXP Home.

I would double check your power settings for windows (not the bios), its found in the Screen Saver tab on the display properties (the button is named Power in the lower right)..

Thanks, but that's what I meant by "in Windows". All is fine there. Sigh.

Where do you mean sniper's_scope? Under Power there are no screens, and under Screens there are no power settings.

Thanks.

Btw all. In my BIOS the setting for standby at the moment is S3(STR).

Also. I have my 65" rear projection tv set as primary, and an LCD as secondary.

i mean go into monitor properties in the pc and kill the disable the idle power settings under your monitor tab...

its a windows setting that's causing your issue not the bios, i'm assuming you know how to to you monitor settings in windows, right click any part of your windows screen and hit properties

Thanks. I understand that, but there's nothing there like that. Maybe because it's an older mobo. Biostar U8598.

Though under Power Schemes I have System Standby set to 20min.

Thanks for trying.

Pinan

right click on your Windows desktop and goto Properties..

There is a tab at the top in the middle called Screen Saver, click on that

on the bottom right is a button titled Power...

just click on there to get to the windows APCI power settings..

under here you have 3 main options on the Power Schemes Field

Turn off Monitor:
Turn off hard disks:
System Standby:

set the Turn off Monitor to whatever you like, i use 45minutes

I set Turn off Hard disks to Never
I set System Standby to Never

Now on the tabs at the top there is one called Hibernate.. I recommend turning this off, click on the tab and uncheck Enable Hinbernation..

now simply click Ok or Apply and you are done..

Thanks avonnied. But that is exactly how I have it set up already. Note that in my above post I state under "Power Schemes", and "Windows".

Thanks for your efforts. I'm not a Newbie, but perhaps I was a bit vague. It's easy to take some things for granted. Heh
