Thanks for the info. I will look into it in AVSForums but I live in a rural area with a small cable provider so I am not hopeful there will be any information. The good news is that I know many of the tech's at the cable company on a first name basis. (You'd be amazed at how good your customer service gets when you stop and give the techs working on the side of the road a cold Coke on a hot Florida afternoon. )

Edit: Nothing on AVSForums as expected. I called tech support for my cable company and found out that they do not have any channels now but will have Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS by the end of the year. I know what to ask for for Christmas!

I'm ordering too. I haven't really dug into it yet, but I understand how this works on a network...but can it be hooked directly to the HTPC (crossover cable)? My antenna feed is nowhere near my router, and I'd like to avoid running Cat5.

You can hook it up directly to your server with a crossover if you have an extra network adapter, but you will have to have run a DHCP server for that network connection. The HDHR does not support a static IP assignment. I am planning to do that as well to offload the bandwidth burden going to the clients and to avoid the need for a network switch by my server PC.

Thanks Morgan. I wonder if static IP ability will come with future firmware updates. Got any links for running a DHCP server? I look forward to reading about your progress in this area

QAM supported in V6.0.12

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QAM is supported in V6.0.12 on OnAir USB GT tuner http://www.autumnwave.com/.

Since there is no information in EPG data that we can use for tuning or mapping, you have to scan and mapping EPG channel. we don't have a easy way so far, but you could sort out all channels that have "(C)" in name, which are "Condition Access" Channels.

The easiest way to run a DHCP, assuming you're running Windows, is to use the "Internet Connection Sharing" feature.

Update - beta release 20061111 is now available.

This release adds QAM256 support.
Supposedly so. But guide data is not automatic you have to do a manual config just like for autumnwave.

Thanks, I'm still holding off on purchasing one for now. I know I'm dreaming, but I'd much rather have a dual tuner pci or pci-e card.

Yes. I am very curious what the support is like. I just verified that my local channels are unencrypted and by having basic cable, I should be able to use QAM!

It sounds like the beta is going reasonably well for this. I just put my order in. I only plan to use it for OTA right now, but will probably use the QAM capabilities in the next year or so; I have heard from several sources that Comcast in my area is phasing out analog cable sometime next year.

Just ordered one. Thanks for you early adopters posting.

P

Edit: As far as QAM, from everything I've read (AVS Dvico threads), cable companies ocassionally re-assign QAM freq's. This sounds like missed recordings could happen. I have no idea how often they do this however.
