Quality Question - Recording Details 480i

Hello - I just upgraded to version 6 and I have DirecTV standard (not high def). I'm now recording back at DVD Standard and I noticed that when I look at the details it shows 480i and I was wondering if that was normal for standard video. Is there any way to improve the quality without going to high def as I have tried so many things.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, 480i is normal, that's what SD is.

As for quality, have you tried calibrating you capture settings? Other than that, I don't know, my recordings are nearly transparent, even on a 115" wide screen.

I think it looks just fine but I think my wife wants it such that if one paused the video then it would look just like a jpg picture which is clear and sharp at a high resolution. This is why I'm thinking I either need a better decoder (such as the hardware decoder in the MVP) or I may need to look more into HD.

Thanks,
Mike

If she wants paused TV to look like a digital photo, then I think you need to look into making her expectations more realistic.

I think for the most part the problem started when we went to at 40" and 46" LCD from the old 27" TV tube. I think I'm going to have to explore HD more.

Thanks,
Mike
